Nurembergโs walled medieval Old Town holds most of what visitors come for, from the Kaiserburg castle to the Hauptmarkt, and the main station sits right at its southern gate. These boutique hotels in Nuremberg suit travellers who want a place with its own personality: a hotel built around local legends, a 1950s time capsule, a listed sandstone building turned design apartments.

Area: Lorenz side of the Old Town, a 3-minute walk to St Lorenz church
Guest rating: 9.2/10 on Booking.com
Drei Raben calls itself Nurembergโs first theme hotel, and its rooms are named after the cityโs myths and characters: Kaspar Hauser, Albrecht Dรผrer, the Schรถner Brunnen fountain, Germanyโs first railway and Till Eulenspiegel among them. Guests get a welcome drink on arrival and an evening wine sampling at the Rabenwein bar.
Guests love: the staff, who score 9.8 and are praised for local tips and restaurant bookings; the stories behind each themed room; and the breakfast and complimentary evening glass of wine.
Watch out for: rooms facing the main street can be noisy, and some rooms and bathrooms are on the small side.

Every unit has a fully equipped kitchenette, and the hotel says stays of a month or more arenโt unusual.
The building also houses monkฤซ, a ramen restaurant making its noodles in house from organic flour, and a free guest fitness studio. It is one of two hotels in the small Neighborhood Hotels collection, alongside Karl August.
Guests rate cleanliness, comfort and staff at 9.6 each, and reviewers single out quiet, spacious rooms with good soundproofing, the free guest laundry and heated bathroom floors. Breakfast is the mixed point: some enjoy it, while others would rather eat elsewhere. Melter holds a GreenSign sustainability certification.
Design-Boutique Hotel Vosteen

Area: north of the Old Town walls, behind the castle, a short stroll to the underground
Guest rating: 9.1/10 on Booking.com

Vosteen is a private, family-run hotel decorated throughout in original 1950s vintage style, and it describes itself as a boutique and artist hotel. Rooms carry names rather than numbers (Audrey, Blรผten, Gartenblick) and pair friendly colours with period furniture. Fruit, water, tea, coffee, sweets and grappa are free all day, and thereโs a terrace and garden for warmer evenings.
It sits on a peaceful side street behind the castle, next to the Stadtpark. Across the road, the apartment house Christina adds pet-friendly self-catering apartments for longer stays.
Reviewers love the homemade breakfast in a room overlooking the garden, the distinctive interiors and the feel of a small independent hotel run by a friendly owner. Value for money is its lowest category score at 8.9, and the odd guest mentions parking hassles.
Karl August
Address: Augustinerhof 1, Nuremberg
Area: Sebald side of the Old Town, a 14-minute walk from the main station
Guest rating: 9.1/10 on Booking.com

Karl August stands where Karlstraรe meets Augustinerstraรe, part of the Augustinerhof development, and itโs designed as much for locals as for hotel guests. On site are Brasserie Nitz, Cafรฉ Pique Nique, the Bonbon ice cream bar and Restaurant Tisane. Nine room categories run from the Cosy Single to the Suite, with apartments that have their own kitchens.
This is the pick for a spa stay: thereโs a sauna, fitness room and a swimming pool with a view. Its location score of 9.9 is the highest on this list.
Guests rave about the interior design, the spa and pool, and the brasserie and bakery breakfast. The catch is price: value for money, at 8.5, is clearly its weakest category score. Karl August holds a GreenSign sustainability certification.

Being a short walk from the station makes it the easiest arrival on this list, and the hotel has its own underground car park for drivers.
The breakfast is the standout in reviews, with guests calling it among the best of their travels, and the staff (9.6) are praised for their personal touch. Some rooms are on the small side. The Victoria holds a GreenSign sustainability certification.
Where to Stay in Nuremberg
Lorenz side (Lorenzer Altstadt): the southern half of the walled Old Town, around St Lorenz church and the Kรถnigstraรe pedestrian street that leads up from the station. It suits first-time visitors and anyone arriving by train who wants shops and sights on the doorstep. Drei Raben and Melter are both on Kรถnigstraรe.
Sebald side (Sebalder Altstadt): the northern half of the Old Town, home to the Hauptmarkt, St Sebald church and the Kaiserburg castle. It suits travellers who want the castle close by and the Hauptmarkt, home of the Christkindlesmarkt, on their doorstep. Karl August is here.
Kรถnigstor and the station: the gate to the Old Town, directly across from the main station and beside the Handwerkerhof. It suits short stays and travellers moving on by train, and itโs where youโll find the Victoria. Itโs also the handiest base if Munich comes next, where every one of our sustainable hotels in Munich holds a current eco certification.
North of the walls, by the Stadtpark: quiet residential streets behind the castle, beside the city park and a short stroll from the underground. It suits travellers who prefer peaceful evenings and donโt mind a short walk into the centre. Vosteen is here.
