Lumiรจre Boutiquehotel im Fรผrstenhof
Address: Trรถndlinring 8, Leipzig
Area: City centre, on the Ring, 650 m from the Old Town Hall
Guest rating: 9.2/10 on Booking.com
The Fรผrstenhof was built in 1770 as a classicist city palace for the Lรถhr banking family and has been a hotel since 1890. Described as Leipzigโs oldest luxury hotel, it was run by Kempinski from 1996 and later in the Luxury Collection, then reopened after four years closed as the Lumiรจre, which calls itself Leipzigโs first privately run boutique hotel. Its Art Nouveau facade was restored in 2022, and the Serpentine Hall, added in 1865, takes its name from the natural stone serpentine.
Inside there are 100 rooms and suites, from Classic doubles to the 114 mยฒ Brockhaus Suite, all with a Nespresso machine. Restaurant LUCE serves fine dining built on regional produce, and the Femina Bar mixes signature cocktails and aperitivo classics. The hotel has its own underground car park, a tram stop out front, and Central Station 550 m away.
Guests love: the staff, which score 9.6, the location for walking into the old town, and a stylish interior with modern art throughout. Breakfast and the bar also come up often, and Booking notes more repeat guests here than at most hotels.
Watch out for: the new dark grey decor divides opinion, and several reviewers find the rooms under-lit in the evening. A couple also missed a kettle, and the restaurant isnโt open every day.

Voss Villa
Address: Wilhelm-Seyfferth-Straรe 2, Leipzig
Area: Musikviertel, 750 m from the Bach Museum
Guest rating: 9.0/10 on Booking.com
Check Availability
Voss Villa is a small suite hotel of just 16 suites, each with its own interior, in a modern building that has been welcoming guests since 2018. Suites start at 30 mยฒ with floor-to-ceiling windows, and the Deluxe suites add walk-in wardrobes and, in some, a bathtub and a balcony looking towards the town hall. The Loft Suites run to 85 mยฒ with a full kitchen, which makes them a good fit for longer stays.
The house has a garden and sun terrace, a basement gym, bike hire and secure parking directly underneath, and every area is wheelchair accessible. Breakfast is optional and served in the building next door. The US consulate is a neighbour on the same street, and Johannapark is 350 m away.
Reviewers single out the size and style of the suites, comfortable beds and soundproof windows, and many note the centre is only a few minutesโ walk away. The recurring complaint is thin staffing: there is no reception at weekends or late in the evening, so late arrivals check themselves in, and staff (8.7) is the lowest category score of our picks. A couple also found the breakfast next door modest.
Book Hotel Leipzig
Address: Auguste-Schmidt-Straรe 6, Leipzig
Area: Augustusplatz, 400 m from the square
Guest rating: 9.0/10 on Booking.com

This hotel leans into Leipzigโs reputation as a book city. The building is shaped like a book, with four floors of floor-to-ceiling windows behind a bright facade designed to look like a bookcase, and there are books in the hallways and in the rooms. Rooms run from 20 to 40 mยฒ, most with king-size beds and external blinds.
Deluxe rooms have a walk-in rain shower and a balcony with seating, and the Junior Suite has a bathtub and its own rooftop terrace with a canopy and lounge sofa. The hotel has an underground garage, and the breakfast buffet includes vegan alternatives. Reception is staffed from 7 am to 8 pm, so arrange a later arrival in advance.
Guests consistently mention how quiet the street is, with some sleeping with the windows open, yet the centre is a short walk away, and they praise the friendly staff and spotless rooms. Its value-for-money score (9.1) is the highest of our picks. The common gripe is room extras: some rooms have no mini-fridge or kettle, and one reviewer noted there is no air conditioning.
Where to Stay in Leipzig
City centre: the old centre inside the Ring suits first-time visitors and short stays. From the Markt you can reach the Renaissance Old Town Hall, St Nicholas Church and St Thomas Church, where Bach was cantor for 27 years, along with the arcades and trading courtyards. Lumiรจre Boutiquehotel im Fรผrstenhof is on the Ring itself, 550 m from Central Station, handy if youโre carrying on by train to Dresden, where our Dresden boutique hotels are split between the Old Town and the Neustadt.
Augustusplatz: the big square on the east side of the centre suits concert and opera goers, with the Gewandhaus, home of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, facing the Opera House. Most of the cityโs trams run through here, which makes it an easy base for getting around. Book Hotel Leipzig is on a quiet street 400 m away.
Musikviertel: south-west of the centre, this is one of Leipzigโs most elegant districts, full of listed historic buildings, with the Federal Administrative Court and the University of Music and Theatre. It suits couples and anyone who wants calm streets and parks, with Johannapark and Clara-Zetkin-Park on its edge. Voss Villa is here.
Waldstraรenviertel: right next to the centre and the Rosental park, this is Germanyโs largest continuous district of Wilhelminian-era buildings, with small shops, cafรฉs and restaurants. It suits return visitors and anyone heading to the Red Bull Arena. None of our picks is here, but the Fรผrstenhof is 450 m from the Rosental.
Sรผdvorstadt and Plagwitz: these suit younger travellers and anyone here for nightlife and art. Karl-Liebknecht-Straรe, known as KarLi, is one of the cityโs best-known streets and runs through the student-friendly Sรผdvorstadt, while Plagwitz in the west has the bars and venues of Karl-Heine-Straรe and the Spinnerei, once continental Europeโs largest cotton mill and now full of galleries and studios.
